How to make NC button also pop up menu?

Using the NC controls, specifically a button with a drop-down menu, how do I make clicking the button also invoke the popup menu? Having a Menu button at the top with everything inside it calls for quick and easy user access. So I would expect built-in support for showing the related popup menu when clicking the main button, so that the user doesn't have to carefully aim their mouse over the little arrow on the right of it.

I know I can invoke it manually, but that seems unnecessary, and I'd have to make it perfectly match the placement as the auto drop-down does.
