I am unable to recreate this on either of my MacBook Pros running fully updated Catalina.
Java on Windows has a known issue with accented characters in the username — could this be the issue in your case? (I've not heard of this problem affecting Mac users, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.)
Hey Azrei, back from holiday and didn't notice the message.
I am confused about username?
- username on my Mac the admin and the standard user is normal without any special letters
- username in maptool....I do not get that far to even use.
I have taken a look in library >preferences and see that there is a whole list of these: maptool.macros.0000000098.plist (98 files to be exact). Is that normal?

Okay, then that's not the issue.

Understood.

Yes. That's the location that Java chooses to store Java Preferences settings, and Global macros (and I believe GM macros) are stored using Java Preferences. (The location and technique are platform-specific, so these same macros would be stored in the registry on Windows, for example.)
I feel like it is something small we are overlooking...very very frustrating. I might be streaming in the fall and want to use maptool as well. It will not be possible if maptool doesn't work. I have now send a message on the apple community forum. I hope something turns up soon
Would you care to link to your thread there? I’d like to follow it. Thanks.
Here is the link.
Also the program that they were suggesting did not give me much info or log info, unless I buy the program that is.
Here is the link.
I don't see a link. Would you care to try again?
