Borderlands 2 [NPUB30898]: Missing characters

Open Shoegzer opened this issue 9 months ago • 7 comments

Quick summary

Characters are missing in the game's various menus.

Details

The issue varies - sometimes it can appear in a specific menu and then the next time the game is launched, those characters are fine but others from a different menu are missing. This was observed with a fresh shader cache.

this issue is similar to #16449 which is fixed enabling Disable Asynchronous Memory Manager on Debug menu. @Shoegzer please try to enable that option and see if it fixes the issue

I really need to look into that toggle, I've just been really pressed for time lately. Please link all the tickets into the main one https://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/issues/16800 so I have a single place to review all of them.

@digant73 Thanks. I turned the Async MM option on, and while I haven't had much time to test, going through all the menus before going ingame, I didn't see any missing characters so far - and the missing text usually shows in at least one menu. Not the most conclusive results, but I'll try to check for more when I have time.

I’ve been noticing that the same missing text issue has been happening in Splatterhouse too in the options menus. I thought it might have been connected to the current rendering issues that’s happening in that game at the moment. I opened a ticket about that here recently.

asked @MarioSonic2987 to add this bug report to #16800. I also made some changes in MM.cpp allowing to fix all of those issues but of course it could maybe be useful to you just to identify what is needed to do somewhere else to fix those issues. I will add that piece of code (with some comments) just as reference about what is fixed

#16873

Please verify also that the issue in #16873 (flickering) is possibly fixed enabling Disable Asynchronous Memory Manager on Debug menu so we will add that bug report to the list

No, I enabled the “Disable Asynchronous Memory Manager” option in the debug menu and it only fixed the missing text in the menu screens and options menus in Splatterhouse. I tested the game again, and the rendering issue is still there when in game. And I’m not sure if by enabling “Disable Asynchronous Memory Manager” causes the game to crash, as it did during the opening cutscene. But the game can be prone to crashing anyway.

Image I can replicate the issue of missing font characters in menus enabling Disable Asynchronous Memory Manager on Debug menu does appear to help
