Incorrect game data + game update install order on some games
For some games such as
- Ryu ga Gotoku OF THE END
- Ryu ga Gotoku 3
- Ryu ga Gotoku 4
- Ryu ga Gotoku 5
If the game updates are installed after the game data is installed to HDD, the games will work fine. If the game updates are installed before the game data is installed to the HDD, the games won't work.
Something to note is that these games do not trigger an update popup on PS3 before booting, likely because of the "popup: false" property they have on their update tag on the PS3 Update API data.
As investigated on Discord, on a physical console, the software update popup happened only after the game data was installed to HDD, after the save data creation dialogue. I wonder if there's some check on the PS3 OS that triggers this after a save dialogue, or if it's something that the game itself calls for.

As the affected user I would like to add on a few extra comments. If I install the updates before doing the HDD install for OF THE END, 3, & 4 then it is an infinite flashing logo. While Ryu Ga Gotoku 5 gave me a CORRUPTED DATA error which was fixed by the above method. When using an actual PS3, the update does not appear until after the HDD install, even hitting "check for updates" on the PS3 XMB says that you are up to date, but for one of the games I don't entirely remember, I think it was 4, the save file is BEFORE the HDD install, but the update still ends up being after the full installation. I am getting English disc versions of 3, 4, & OF THE END (Dead Souls) soon so I can do testing with those as well The specific Serials for the currently tested versions are Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 [BLJM60132], Ryu Ga Gotoku 4 [BLJM60208], Ryu Ga Gotoku OF THE END [BLJM60316], and Ryu Ga Gotoku 5 [BLJM60489]
