When using this with Java version 1.19.4, game does not understand commands

I'm running this via CurseForge on Java Edition 1.19.4.

In a creative world with cheats enabled, no commands work. GPT was having problems, so I tried entering commands manually, and no commands function and there is no auto complete.

For example, I try: /give @p apple 1 to give me an apple, but it says

Unknown or incomplete command, see below for error give @p apple 1<--[HERE]

This is a fresh CurseForge install that only has the additional mode of "Fabric API".

When I run clean with no mods, commands work as expected.
