[Question] about future donations
Hello,
First of all, thank you for creating and maintaining 4gaBoards, also thanks for the effort in keeping it alive and improving.
I absolutely love the project, it has been really helpful for me in structuring and managing my work. I’m currently self-hosting it, and it has quickly become a core part of my daily workflow.
I noticed that donations are temporarily unavailable at the moment. Do you plan to reopen them in the future?
That’s great to hear! We really appreciate your support and kind words.
If everything goes well, donations should be open by the end of next week (28 September 2025). I'll ping you here when it's ready.
Great news!
Donations are now available again at: https://4gaboards.com/contribute#donate
This may be controversial, but did you consider adding some kind of "feature sponsorships"? Meaning if you have some idea approved, people may vote with their donations for the tasks.
This idea in general probably has a lot of disadvantages, but you can ie: only follow the donated priorities for 20% of your time. But it also really brings attention of developers towards things people actually want go see implemented (first).
This may be controversial, but did you consider adding some kind of "feature sponsorships"?
Hi! It's a nice idea and we will think about it, do you have any tools to recommend for such "feature sponsorship"? To clarify: Do you mean that we give several feature ideas and the ones with the most votes will be focused on?
Unfortunately i dont know such tool, one project i know used it years ago, but it seems they no longer do, and all the other projects ive seen this implemented i dont really care about so i cannot point you to them.
Gpt suggests: Polar, IssueHunt, Bountysource.
From what i uderstand, these attaches donations to github issues and i suspect they can show a leaderboard kind of thing
So
Do you mean that we give several feature ideas and the ones with the most votes will be focused on?
Not really that, but my idea was that you should be able to pick which issues can be voted for (so nonsense issues or features you actually do not want in your project can not get sponsored), and: ie the one that gets most $ gets focused on for the next week/month. And of course you only spend 20% of time on sponsored tasks, the rest 80% you do your own vision. I hope these tools can help you with that if you like the idea
Ok many thanks for clarifying, now I understand your point and I like this idea quite much, especially direct connection donation-issue. Thanks for the research on tools we will look at them in a convenient time.
