[Bug]: obsidian crash when surfing tab with chatgpt.com open on startup

Open maanemann opened this issue 7 months ago • 0 comments

Bug Description

After booting my computer and launching Obsidian, it kept silently crashing when nearly done loading everything. At first i thought it was a ram/cpu issue, but found that it wasn't.

After debugging by removing plugins from the plugins folder and gradually moving them back, i found that Surfing was causing the crash. One of the tabs opened from last session was a Surfing instance showing chatgpt.com.

I've spent some time trying out different scenarios several times each and have found this:

  • i tried with another domain (https://unicodes.jessetane.com/), which didn't cause problems
  • It happens more often when surfing tab is out of focus and open in a secondary window, as was the case the first time
  • sometimes, when surfing tab open in secondary window, the window would just not open on obsidian startup, including other tabs in it, only main window would open
  • removing all other plugins and css snippets doesn't do any difference

Surfing version is 0.9.12 Windows 10 Pro 22H2 19045.4529

To Reproduce

  1. open any md note in a secondary obsidian window, so you have 2 windows with at least one note in each
  2. open a Surfing tab in the secondary window and navigate to chatgpt.com
  3. switch focus to the note instead of the surfing tab in the secondary window
  4. focus the main window and press alt+F4 to close obsidian (when main window is closed, other windows will close too)
  5. reopen obsidian, wait for it to finish loading everything
  6. observe obsidian crash
