So how far out is this feature, because this plugin would be unfathomably good for our collaborative research project, if we could only integrate our citation/markup extension workflow.

There's many, many, powerful academic workflows that function through extensions. This would make Surfing an incredibly powerful asset.

I may reccomend looking into https://github.com/NeverDecaf/chromium-web-store. This allows extention usage without google stuff. This may not be relivant, I don't know much about browser development. <3
