Question: is there an easy way to search in the current tab only?
Hi,
I've just discovered this great FF add-on because the previous add-on I used, now fails to run under FF25.
Is there a way to search "in the current tab only" ie to hide the panel which lists all tabs to have more space to see results and maybe also to search quicker?
thanks for your answer, best regards,
It actually wouldn't make the search quicker just by doing that. But I will add something similar to what you're asking in the future.
I meant to write it wouldn't make it "much" quicker.
Thanks for the quick answer ... now I'm waiting for this new feature ;-).
I would also like the functionality to show the matches only in the current tab.
I am trying v2 and can confirm that searching in the current tab is indeed slowed down by the rest of tabs, even if it is working in the background. Of course I must note that I have currently open >600 tabs (40 of them loaded), so probably my case is kind of a stress-test; however I guess that this might also be interesting to know ;P.
What I see is that the "find in all tabs" pane opens (I hope it will come to a sidebar or some such eventually), the tab list is populated, and then the tab names are shuffled around, I guess as they are scanned by FindBar. And the current tab seems to not be prioritized in the scanning order, so to get the list of results for the current tab I have to wait around 2 minutes. Adding a new letter to the search string starts the process from 0.
FindBar Tweak is grrreat, thank you for your work (and will be more than just a "thanks") - I just hope it will be even better so I can stop fighting other half-cooked options like Hugo or (shudder) Fastest Search!
That's pretty much what I plan to add. All the matches in the page would appear in a similar list like they do now, only in the sidebar. That list would change only as you switch tabs (and in other ways too, but I haven't figured everything out yet, and that's not relevant to your point anyway), so that the current tab is not only prioritized but also isn't slowed down by all the other tabs.
There's also a few things from both those add-ons you mentioned that I already want to add to FBT, plus a lot more that you can't find in either. But this is just one of those things that takes time, unfortunately I can't give you a release date on anything, I can only tell you that I haven't forgotten. ;)
