Decorating symbols in LaTeX

I spend a lot of time decorating symbols in LaTeX. Examples of decorations include:

  • \mathbf
  • \bm
  • \vec

Since these get used a lot, it would be nice to have an extremely fast method for inserting something like \bm a or maybe \bm{a}. This needs to interact cleanly with sub/superscripts, so hence the latter may be preferred.

This may also be combined with a chord that allows fast sp-up-sexp, or alternatively #56 .
