This is a really cool concept. Are you aware of any discussions about bringing this functionality into upstream apt?

Unfortunately no, this idea has been abandoned by the mainstream "apt" repo maintainers, at least for ubuntu/debian. The original author has also abandoned it. Probably cause of that messy python code..... since it is so reliant on defunct python2 libs, it really loses a lot of its portability for modern OSes. TBH it might be better to just rewrite the entire program rather than try to replace the libs.

I definitely agree with you that this functionality is definitely something that we still need in the modern day. Even Windows is now supporting pulling update from computers on the local network. A P2P version of apt is far more reliable and economical, than the current option. Anyways, that's why I cloned it here to github to make it easier to access for others and spread the idea.
