Has the concept of „over-fishing“ been implemented?
I recall that in Amiga Settlers it was a real thing. Had a game recently where the AI built several fisher huts around a small pond and had several stacks of fish lying around. Old Amiga Settlers handbook gave the tip to use max 3-4 fishing huts per screen-sized lake to prevent fish extinction in that lake. (On amiga, screen-resolution was considerably larger than standard dos-vga settlers resolution.)
Water tiles have amounts of fish stored which will decrease while fishing. They are refilled from time to time. So this should be implemented.
this looks like a bug in Freeserf. I added an overlay that lets you see the hidden resources on the map, including Fish. What I see is that the initial stocks of fish seem reasonable, but they spawn VERY FAST, many fish per second on mapsize 3 with normal game speed. This can't be correct, as it results in essentially infinite fish even in the smallest body of water.
I am going to change my fork so that initial stocks are high, but the spawn rate is very low so overfishing is possible
Maybe I should also have a look then.
