Could use some work -- it's basically only valid when each subproblem has its own rank.

If I had my way, we would get rid of this. It is there for research purposes and I think researchers should hack what they need when they need it. There is at least one reasonable person who disagrees with me so if we find another, then I can say that reasonable people disagree. Maybe we can discuss it at a meeting when we have good attendance.

And one more thing: maybe the tiktoc timer we have by default is enough for some research purposed.
