Word keeps highlighted after copying the text

The issue is that sometimes there is a word that is kept highlighted when it shouldn't. I have realised that it happens whenever I have a text highlighted and I use "ctrl+c" to copy that text. When I select another word, the new word gets highlighted throughout the text, as expected, _but_ the word that was highlighted during "ctrl+c" is also highlighted. Once reached that point, no matter what I do, I cannot get the highlight off until I close the file and open it again.

I am using Windows 7 with Atom 1.8
