PS4: NW-31253-4 on Pugmatt instance
I'm getting NW-31253-4 on PS4 System Software 8.03 when using Pugmatt's (104.238.130.180) primary DNS server. This is not just cosmetic; system functionality is extremely impaired while set.
Two very strange complications:
- A Nintendo Switch [firmware
11.0.1] on the same network has no issues using Pugmatt's DNS server. - Changing the PS4's primary DNS to jdextraze's (
173.82.100.84), instead, is a functional workaround
Very odd. As far as I'm aware, the two DNSs should be setup pretty much the same.
According to https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/error-codes/ps4/nw-31253-4/ , the error means the DNS server is delayed or unstable. My instance's DNS is under heavy traffic daily, probably quite a lot more than the other instances listed under mine on the README, so only thing I think of at the moment is that the PS4 is more strict on having a stable DNS connection than the Switch/Xbox. Of course that doesn't solely answer the impaired functionality, as I would think it would be impaired on the Switch as well if it was a bad connection issue. Also, can you expand on what kind of functionality impairments you're experiencing?
@jdextraze Out of curiosity, how is your DNS server currently setup? Is it about the same setup as the script here? https://github.com/Pugmatt/BedrockConnect/blob/master/scripts/install-bind.sh
As a matter of fact no. I am experimenting with allowing recursion with rate limiting on mine. I was waiting on gathering more info and feedback before posting here. But this confirms my suspicions that some console require recursive DNS to work.
