Landing page video not playing automatically in Safari
Brief description of problem/feature
The video at the top of the landing page isn't playing for me in Safari. Instead, there is a play button in the background that I can't click on. There's an err error in the console that reads
Unhandled Promise Rejection: NotAllowedError: The request is not allowed by the user agent or the platform in the current context, possibly because the user denied permission.
System info (OS, browser, city, and local/prod/test)
MacOS Safari, all cities, both test and prod.
Okay reopening this because it still doesn't seem to be 100% working on prod/test...
For me, it works sometimes. Sometimes I'll scroll to the bottom of the page and back up and then it starts working. @dylanbun said that it was working for him. I asked my roommate to try; they said that it works in the beginning then the video stopped, then they scrolled down and back up and it started playing again.
From roommate again:

@justyeethan are you able to reproduce the issue of the landing page video not playing in Safari?
Another thing I think I noticed on my Mac was that controls for the video would sometimes show up briefly when I switched tabs and then switched to the Project Sidewalk landing page tab again. My Mac is in for repairs right now so I can't test again, unfortunately. I don't remember if this issue happened in Chrome or in Safari though.
@justyeethan can you reproduce any sort of weirdness on a Mac in any browser? I'd love to see if we can smooth out the landing page video!
Here is the relevant documentation: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/video
@misaugstad Yeah I can replicate the video controls showing up on tabswitch and on loading on Chrome but not Safari. I've just fixed the controls issue, but I haven't been able to replicate the video not playing automatically on Safari.
Works for me! Can you see what you can do to fix it? Once it's working, please test in other browsers to make sure it hasn't gotten worse on those. Then I can test on a few browsers myself!
Sounds like @justyeethan hasn't been able to reproduce the issue of the video not playing automatically on Safari, so we'll have someone else work on it that is able to reproduce!
