Feature request: Formation lights

Open sevn10 opened this issue 4 years ago • 7 comments

Describe the solution you'd like

  • Addition of two formation lights on the tail cone
  • Ability to turn on and off formation lights that are located on the stabilator and tail cone

Location Image

h60formationlights

Additional context

  • Should be very dim in daylight when on
  • Key for accurately lining up birds during formation flights

Further on this,

Unsure how other mods have done this but using RVMAT’s similar to how we do instrument lighting could be the best way to do it. This would also allow a functional brightness knob & daylight vis

That's how I'd guess it was done, as well. The one that comes to mind with working ones is the Super Hornet Beta.

I know we have some form of formation lights if you go into the left side of the cockpit on the upper console, They arent the cleanest looking but they are working as of latest build

Just the front ones light, unless things have been changed and I'm unaware. The strips on the stabilator and adding the ones on the tail cone would give people accurate reference points for flying multi-ship.

These are Navigation lights, I think they are refering to these FormationLights

More specifically, Position Lights. Red on right, Green on left so you can tell an aircraft's orientation at night if you're doing unaided flight.

My bad on the naming. To pull off working formation lights would we just need a mask and emissive layers added to the shader used for the body? It's tough to see in the example photo if the tail cone would need any model changes.
