Art for PostHog apps

Our PostHog-built 1st party apps (non-comprehensive screenshot) are basically just icons.

It could look really nice to have PostHog-themed (hog) icons/artwork for these, as I'd like to explore using "album art"-type imagery for showing them off. (This space will be used for screenshots by future apps that have a UI or brand art.)

Via the Apps section of this wireframe...

We'd likely need:

  • [ ] Art to fill this space (in place of a screenshot) - icon is already shown above
  • [ ] An icon for each (to be used without the art)

(See most big apps stores for examples of where we're going with this...)

Hog-related seems to make sense and I don't think the theme is feeling tired yet - but to really add some dimension, we could shake up the perspectives of the hogs. (Eg: Rather than seeing them straight on from the side, different camera angles/perspective?)

Example (terrible?) ideas:

  • Schema enforcer - Cop hog with magnifying glass over packets of data
  • Zapier Connector - Hog + Zapier logo (mascot?) in like a Creation of Adam parody
  • Timestamp parser - Feels like this should be an office hog stamping a piece of paper (like on a legal document) - great example of exploring different "camera" angles, like this could be "shot" over the hog's shoulder, down onto a desk where the stamping is happening

Notes from discussion:

  • App icon template
  • Unique icons for each (depending on app) but a visual style that's consistent, so when you see one of these icons at a glance, you can know, "oh, that's a PostHog-built app"
  • Makes sense to use these for apps we built that don't connect to 3rd parties (eg: not for things like Zapier - we can just use their icon)
  • For inspiration of the small thumbnail (screenshot or artwork), then click through to see larger art
