Art request - New Desktop App Icon

Guidelines for good art requests:

• Avoid being overly prescriptive about what you need where possible. You're not prompting an AI.
• Provide context about what you're trying to convey – i.e. a feeling, reaction, or narrative.
• If it's for an article, share the draft headline and some bullet points of what it's about.
• Leave reasonable time. A week is the minimum. Two weeks notice is ideal.
• Assign and tag Lottie and Daniel, so they know about it + and add your issue to the Art & Branding project board.
• Lottie and Daniel will decide between them who will work on what projects and unassign the other person so the Art board can reflect who is working on what.
• If your request is genuinely urgent, please share in #website-and-vibes channel and mention Lottie and/or Cory.

Outline

Explain what you need @PostHog/array is building a new desktop electron app. We need an app icon that is reusable for Windows, MacOS and Linux. Though it's safe to say a majority of users will come from MacOS.

See: What is "Array" for more info on target persona, core problem it solves, features, form factor, etc.

In terms of "style" we're currently using a dark theme with orange accents in the UI, with a terminal vibe.

Feel free to reach out if you need more details :) Open to anything here, go wild.

Deadline & Priority

When do you need it? How important is it? Somewhat soon-ish. Somewhere in November would be great.

Technical requirements

Since we need to work across 3 operating systems, we need 3 different file formats (.icns, .ico, .png). It's probably best to instead provide a high res PNG in a 1:1 aspect ratio of the icon, and we can use a script to convert it to the different formats. Preferably one asset with a background and one with a transparent one.

hi hi hi, so few questions for this:

• would be great to see some images of the UI so we can match the vibe?
• do you have any other apps you like the icons for or is it more we have full design control?
• what sizes will these be seen at? (I assume small but how small)

We chatted through this, but cliff notes:

• should be cool/sleek/slick
• not the PostHog logo as this is a separate sub brand
• should allude to tasks
• somehow connected to our brand but different

@lottiecoxon @corywatilo That sounds good to us. The look an vibe currently is black background orange accent's (that really it) create control to you. size wise: 1024 × 1024 px would be good.

Not sure if we can use the same thing as a team crest or if I should open another request for that?

Super early drafts but been playing on FIGMA Here are some of my favs :

(using the cursor icon outline to also represent an A for Array. some of the more layered ones are playing with the concept of human action merging with AI/tech tools but hm i dunno - thoughts?

@k11kirky - I think what would help move this along would be actual screenshots of the apps UI please, I saw (i think the app) yesterday at the christmas hackathon and the vibe is verrrry different to the app designs I was making and I think the disconnect is my lack of awareness of the app. If you could get me some that would be uber helpful!!
