Improve build & packaging processes

Currently our build processes are hard coded.

We should see about automating them to some degree, following the patterns of something like the .distignore file or a .gitattributes file to determine which files to keep and ignore.

This way when we move build processes to the cloud as part of our automated deployment the files included will already be correctly set up.
