This sound familiar. But not related to step 4 of your description and happens generally when launching it right? In nix you have to make sure that mesa versions match...
Ok i though it might be a different issue. Can you update hyprland as well and see if that also happens on current main?

@Thlr the problem seems to be on you side. works on all versions i tried. Post the image widget you are using
very confused by this. `nix run github:hyprwm/hyprlock\?tag=v0.5.0 --override-input nixpkgs nixpkgs -- --config ~ /.config/hypr/hyprlock5.conf` with your png and image config works for me
I think it probably unlocks because of the grace period. Do you have grace set? Because when hyprlock crashes it will try to recover by restaring hyprlock. Otherwise you would...
But sadly I am not able to reproduce the crash when monitors are turning back on.
Currently not an issue it seems.
