Open planteome-user opened this issue 14 years ago • 0 comments

Rich Zobel of the ISRR (International Society for Root Research) has suggested these new root terms based on the root nomenclature framework they developed and published in Plant Biosystems (June 2010). See tracker: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2899934&group_id=76834&atid=835555.

- non-pericyclic basal root (ID:0000007)

proposed def: "A basal root that arises from tissues other than the pericycle of the hypocotyl." [ISS:rwz]

comment: Adventitious root has been used to describe all roots not branching off the taproot (Primary). Now that basal root have been demonstrated to be distinct from shoot-borne and taproot, this is no longer suitable. synonym: "adventitious root" BROAD is_a: ID:0000001 ! basal root created_by: richzobel
