Bug in BURST with JPEG

Open ivandisi opened this issue 11 years ago • 4 comments

I think that there is a bug in burst mode when output is JPEG.

If u disable autofocus (and set in manual), in burst mode focus is OK in DNG but noto in JPEG mode... With autofocus ON alla works fine.

My test

Switch to manuale focus Set focus (~macro) Open burst and switch ON it Focus OK in DNG Switch in JPEG (focus bug)

This is a known issue. It appears that when re-creating capture sessions, Nexus 5 will fail into an error state and start to report incorrect focus distance, and sometimes the lens will even refuse to move at all. The same can be observed when switching between photo and video mode as well.

The current workaround is to adjust MF again after switching, this doesn't always work though. There isn't much I can do until Google fixes the bug in the implementation.

A simple solution could be disable manual focus in Burst mode...

@pkmx Can we not get longer bursts @30fps Like the video can be encoded at 30fps full res. Can those frames not be exported to single image files? On Nov 26, 2014 4:18 PM, "ivandisi" [email protected] wrote:

@ivandisi I would rather not take that approach as this is not really a serious bug.

@utkarshns Well, you can always extract each frame from the video afterwards. That said, they will likely have some compression artifacts and won't be as high quality as those JPEGs from burst mode, which applies a slow but nearly lossless compression to each original frame.
