is gender swapping still a thing?

i've been trying to gender swap my male save to a female, sadly theres little info out there on this. is this still a working feature or am i wasting my time trying to get it to work, thanks.

There is something preventing appearance swap between genders. You'd become mostly invisible. We searched for differences between male and female in other parts of the save file and never found the right ones. If I decide to work on this feature again, I'll tell here.

I'm unsure how drastically things have changed, but pre-1.3, the relevant flag was stored in the Persistent Data, within the PlayerPuppet class. It has a Gender property which takes a "Male" or "Female" CName.

This seemed to work without issue in my test cases (as long as the character appearance data was populated with data for the appropriate gender as well.)
