Unreliable rain sensors
Today in my city (Palermo, Sicily) it is raining heavily and the rain sensors (precipitation, intensity and probability) do not report any rain and 0% probability of rain. What could be the problem?
Unfortunately I decided to abandon the integration becouse the sensors are absolutely unreliable and either do not return any data or return absolutely not real data. Thanks all the same for the effort.
Hi,
I’m really sorry I didn’t reply here- there were a few issues all opened on the same day, and I just missed this.
I appreciate hearing these forecast verifications from around the world. I’m in Ottawa, so only have a small slice of the world to compare against.
Unfortunately, there’s no immediate fix here. Right now, I’m using the GFS model for Europe, which is pretty low resolution, so we get these sorts of issues. However, in the next couple months, I’ll be moving to the National Blend of Models, which will really improve the resolution over Europe! I’m going to leave this issue open and tag it when I activate the upgrade, so if you want to check it out again once that’s in place, it would be great!
Again, sorry that this didn’t work out for you this time, and thanks again for opening this issue ☔️
I thank you for your kindness and availability. I really appreciate your work and I hope it can improve more and more. In the coming months I will try your integration again, hoping that the problems are solved. Thanks again for your interest
I know this is an older issue and if you're not using the integration or not planning on it then feel free to close this issue.
NBM hasn't been included yet and is still on the roadmap so your original issue still isn't fixed yet. There was a recent update which fixed a precipitation bug where if there is no real-time (or rapidly updating) data then the hourly precipitation details are now used instead of returning zero.
Yea, I'm going to close this for now, since it's tied in with the broader NBM improvement. The good news on that front is that the 4.1 version is live, so the data is there, just needs to be added to my processing routine: https://vlab.noaa.gov/web/mdl/nbm-versions.
