.ico format support

Open Stephan-P opened this issue 2 months ago • 6 comments

At present Pinta appears to offer no support for the .ico format. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICO_(file_format) Could support for reading (and possibly writing) ICO files be added?

Which platform / installation method are you using? This should already work as long as there is a GDK pixbuf loader for ICO file available

If you're using flatpak this might be the same issue as https://github.com/flathub/com.github.PintaProject.Pinta/issues/55

I installed Pinta on my experimental Linux laptop, where the Linux Mint App Manager offered it as a Flatpk (Flathub). So I guess that your assumption about the issue is correct.

Is there something that I can do to overcome the hurdle? (Please provide conscise instructions, as I am quite the Linux freshman)

Installing GDK pixbuf from the instructions here (https://www.installati.one/install-libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0-ubuntu-22-04/) did not get me further

With the Flatpak model, system packages don't usually have effects.

You'd have to wait for the Flatpak to rebase on the newer Gnome libraries; which is likely in the short-medium term but there's outstanding blockers in doing so.

If you install the snap package or xtradeb package, you should be able to use the .ico format.
