docx is basically a zip file... (like ODT) And there are a lot of files from "ancient" times that are not UTF-8 encoded. They will throw warnings, of course.

Wiki is often outdated. Would that correspond to: /* vim: set noet sw=4 ts=4: */

Ready to be merged? As I understand it this only changes the defaults for the editor on GitHub?

I agree that this looks suspicious. It also is the only occurrence of "nil" in our Help files. It was added with: https://github.com/apache/openoffice/commit/c54bac3d2aecf93b2b5d687e650e52f319ac6383 (Maybe the id was from LO Help?)...
