This strikes me as a useful soils database -- global in extent and 1km in resolution

On a similar note - the International Soil Carbon Network has a new website hosted by LBNL with a searchable database of soil C profiles: http://www.fluxdata.org/nscn/SitePages/ISCN.aspx
