Visual bug with wooden containers not displaying the item they are holding

I may try to reproduce later, but on a dedicated server my friend placed some containers and filled them with items, then when I logged in, they were rendered as if they were empty until I interacted them. After interacting with them they now display their item properly even after relogging.
