Touchscreen support

www.YouTube.com on tablets is rough to use and it would be cool if this project could help. The problem is that every finger tap on the video view already counts as input. Depending where you hit, the video pauses, the film seeks to a random timestamp, etc.

Using a user agent faker to use m.YouTube.com instead fixes video controls (first tap displays the controls but doesn't control the video) but leads to severe restriction wrt playlist management.

There are several approaches the extension could help by offering a Tablet-friendly option to do either of these:

  1. Probably the easiest way would be to fake the user agent to Firefox on an Android tablet and automatically append "?app=desktop" to the address all the time. That way main page, subscriptions, etc. load in desktop mode (www.youtube.com) but actual video playback uses the touch-friendly behavior (m.youtube.com). Downside is that the touch-friendly video player doesn't understand keyboard inputs like F for full screen.

  2. An alternative would be to kill YouTube's controls and force Firefox's HTML5 video controls. Added benefit would be to use Firefox's native Picture-in-picture feature.

  3. Somehow "hack" the YouTube video controls to not act when not displayed, ie. the first tap displays the controls and subsequent taps on the actual buttons control the video. That would be the most elegant solution but probably the hardest as well.
