Game crashes before main menu is shown, even with only Rainbomizer installed

Using a downgraded copy of SA (from RGL version to 1.0) with only cleo and modloader installed. Placed the rainbomizer folder in root directory and made a new folder in the modloader folder, called it "Rainbomizer", put the asi file into that folder. Game crashes after the GTA SA splash screen is shown.

I just did a little bit of troubleshooting and found that the latest version of Rainbomizer that works with my configuration is 1.1, anything newer than this does not work and all have the same crashing issue as described in the original post.

The Rainbomizer must be installed by placing the ASI in the GTA SA root directory - the data file system with the new version isn't compatible with ModLoader, so you'll have to move the ASI out of your modloader folder and to the main directory.
