Praise Be and Skkula: The PR (Skkulakin Race 2025)

What Does This PR Do

This PR adds a new playable species entirely unique to Paradise Station, with equally unique lore and abilities! It's been a long time since we've had a Paradise-Only Species, and now feels like as good a time as ever.

The Skkulakin: Skkulakin (Singular & Plural Name) Skulk (Officially Endorsed Nickname) Skkula-Runespeak (New Language)

Skkulakin have several unique customization options, including body presets, colorable body markings, their own hairstyles, and several variants of back-spines.

Gameplay Mechanics:

  • Can spin silk, a new item that can be used as a crafting material. New usage may be added after the initial PR

Boons:

  • 20% Cold Resistance
  • 20% Brain Damage Resistance

Maluses:

  • 20% Heat Vulnerability
  • 20% Easier Bone Fracs
  • Glasses/Eyewear Do Not Provide Flash Protection

This PR is merely a draft and not ready for merge yet. I will update the PR as changes are made and the species reaches a finished state.

Why It's Good For The Game

It's been years since we've gotten our last playable species (Nian), and after a long long time a new species unique to paradise sounds like it would have a good impact.

human_face.dmi needs a greyscale version of the skkula eyes, otherwise eyecolour will not work properly and will instead have 2 human eyes in the middle of their face.

I saw this, thank you. I'll get it sorted shortly.

The PR is almost ready to go out of draft. All that is really left is the MODs, Butt Sprite, and the slight pixel shifting for headwear, eyewear, and earwear

Could you make sure opening the language menu works? Just tried testing opening the language menu via the button in top right & the one bottom right but neither worked only when I was a Skulk. Worked fine on a human not sure if it's a me issue or not.

The language works fine, I had to use :8 to use it though. For reference, I was using these two buttons to try and open the language menu image image
