Headslug Infestation
What Does This PR Do
This PR adds a new event "Headslug Infestation". It, as already clear from the name, adds an event during which headslugs (rounded(Players / 20) appears near ventilations. If they lay an egg in the body, then after a while they will appear as new chagelings in the round. They will have 6 more points than regular changelings, as they appear during the round.
Why It's Good For The Game
New minor antagonists during round, which can replace already lost antags.
Testing
I tested it.

I'd say to not give them any extra points, or at least not 6
Objecting for Balance based on two factors:
- 6 extra points is bonkers and not needed.
- We do not need a RoundStart/MidRound Blob balancing fiasco again. Having to Balance something with two different starting situations is murder to the brain.

I dont really agree with this, blob wasn't a good round start antag, Cling however is, i cant imagine having them appear later into the round would be that bad, see autotot, not quite the same, but still somewhat similar with objectives/gear
Changelings are hard enough to identify as they are. We don't need more of them randomly appearing in a round imo. Not to mention how absolutely murderboney they can get.

now it's not headslugs.
bandicam.2024-04-10.19-04-18-175.mp4 now it's not headslugs.
looks really sick, do you plan to give the changeling an armblade or extra abilities in case they land in a public area? not a balance member but it seems fitting

armblade? not balanced, I think chameleon skin would fit, but everyone knows how shitty it is. or maybe at least organic shield instead of blade
On design team - I am flat out objecting to this. We should not be adding normal antagonists mid round like this which would lead to even more intense levels of chaos. Add in this is a changeling which has no previous stealth to lean in to being not a crew member at round start so they are forced to start killing people immediately in order to get a disguise to try and hide or are automatically forced into a chicken murder chase with security.
There is also an additional objection from the balance team that I am passing on anonymously:
dont think this would be a net positive addition for the average round and i think a TM would show this.
would it be possible to restrict this event to only rounds like traitor or something as to give spice to things without just overturning an entire round
So the plan is to take Changeling, already notorious for being a pain when they just decide to use the murderbone-optimal build, give them a set of 5 base abilities, 14 points instead of 10, and slam them in as a midround where they have a poor starting disguise and an increased excuse to murderbunga to cover for it?
I personally fail to see the appeal.
just double the clients required number and remove the extra points, then tm it for a week to see how we like it.
... can the Changelings just refund their round-starting abilities for even more evo points?
i just realized, what happens if the ling spawns with a steal nuke core or sm objective? where does the box go if they're not wearing a backpack?

i think it just gives them 4 points instead of 14? im not a big-code guy myself so i cant really tell if this means you have 4 or if it gives you 4
either way i think the issue with the PR is that it can happen on any round, and it being rare isn't really an excuse for the gigantic impact it can have on a round that would be stomped on by changelings if theres already another big present threat
I think it would be a lot more balanced if we had 20 points to buy DNA stuff with, with the space suit being given for free at the start. If the changeling chooses to reset their DNA, then the space suit power can be taken away from them, as they become more or less a part of the crew and have chosen to reset their DNA fully.
There is no need to give more DNA points or anything fancy to the changeling, as changelings are already pretty good at silencing people to take their ID if they choose.

This gives them 24 points total, 4 over the normal amount.
This gives them 24 points total, 4 over the normal amount.
it also gives them all the starter cling abilites alongside the extra 4, which is kinda broken (i still died when i played it because i'm wildly unrobust though)

Seems broken on paper but uhh... less so in practice. Lings really don't have that many good abilities (or that many abilities for that matter) so you end up just buying insurance which doesn't come up. To those who are curious, the average 100 person cling round will have 7-8 lings in at roundstart. This midround will add 2 lings under those conditions.
Lings really don't have that many good abilities (or that many abilities for that matter) so you end up just buying insurance which doesn't come up.
in addition, you're in space without an ID, so the only thing you can really do is murder a random engi or explorer which is hard in zero G
something else i discovered is that chameleon skin hides you if you float in zero g, so it's a very viable escape method
oh shit I forgot about this PR lol. I will read everything later.

as I know, when issuing such an objective, the box is handed out if there is no backpack.
@Burzah your request is fulfilled!!#!#!#@!!!
Unfortunately, after an extended TM period, the votes have not changed in a way that allows this PR to be merged. In addition to the feedback shared previously (which remains unchanged) we have two further comments:
- Nothing I can say that hasn't been said, doesn't seem like a great idea for normal midrounds; maybe as an Admin Button to hide a changeling spawn midround for fun - dunno.
- I'm not opposed to putting this on TM for a little while and seeing what happens. The headslugs changing to meteor-space-lings is a much better idea. If this sits in the major midround pool, I'm convinced that the amount of chaos borne from a few gearless lings arriving from space would be orders of magnitudes lower than any other antag in the pool. Edit: I should have specified that I would like a TM before deciding my vote, but will not be against closing it if outweighed by the rest of balance. I still do not think that this would be as bad as others say, but can't be sure unless it's actually tested.
As such, this PR will be closed. Feel free to discuss with the teams and re-visit this PR once you have reached a consensus with them. Thank you for taking the time to keep it maintained and updated while votes were being sorted, it helped smooth the process.
shit.
