cadence for walkers and runners from device sensors

Could there be an option to attempt to track cadence for walkers and runners from the device sensors?

Gyro or step sensors on the device could be used instead of dedicated Bluetooth LE devices.

While not as accurate, they could still work very well overall, and might even encourage some people to keep going when they can see their progress and improvement, or step it up a notch and buy a sensor.
