Repository metadata official definition / documentation

Hi all, I am working on a research project related to project effort estimation, using github open repository metadata for the analysis phase. I am looking for any official source of definition for github repository metadata, in order to work with a precise meaning for all attributes in the metadata. Could anyone please point me in the right direction? I’ve tried already Github docs.

Related to this, my second question is if there is a better way of accessing github repository metadata without the need of downloading everything via API.
