Openshot 3.3.0 from ppa under Ubuntu 24.10 does not play mp3 files
Using Appimage 2.2.0, the problem does not occur. Import an mp3 file, Preview the file does nothing. No audio, no progress in the player. Projects are not exportable. Here are the errors in the terminal:

Hello @gabviv73. In your first paragraph I am assuming you meant AppImage v3.3.0 (not v2.2.0).
I don't have Ubuntu 24.10 but I am running Ubuntu 24.04 lts in as guest VM (Oracle Virtualbox). I imported a .mp3 and performed "Preview File" and audio works. I did this with the PPA installation and the AppImage (not running both at the same time). There are some issues with the preview (lagging, stuttering) but this is in the queue to be fixed.
- I am curios to know if you drag the .mp3 onto a Track and preview it if the audio works.
- Close OpenShot if running: a. Make backup of /home/username/.openshot_qt folder. b. Delete /home/username/.openshot_qt folder. c. Start OpenShot (test PPA & AppImage separately) and see if the "Preview FIle" works.
If you are still having audio issues then I need to know if you are using headset. If you are, then unplug those and restart your computer. Without the headsets plugged in, test the .mp3 again.
Based on your response we can further troubleshoot this issue.
Hi,
I also I have this issue.
- I dragged both directly onto the timeline and into project file and then onto the timeline, both time the track didn't play and the yellow/red playhead indicator didn't move.
- Moved the old .openshot_qt and restarted, right click -> Preview File does not work.
I don't see any errors in the logs. I use external speakers. I have no issues with the AppImage.
This happens for both 3.3.0 and latest Developer Daily build from the PPA.
Finally perhaps I have found the problem: If you set in preferences / preview: default audio sample rate = 44100 [Hz], then imported video and audio streams must have an audio sampling rate of 44100 Hz, otherwise OpenShot don't work anymore and you must restart OpenShot.
Same problem for me with 3.1.1 from Debian, when I add a video with audio of 48000 Hz, if I add an audio track of 44100 Hz, nothing works. The solution is to use same rate for all files of the project.
Typically, whatever your default audio device (in your operating system environment) sample rate is set to, OpenShot should match that.
In the Windows world (Windows 10+), a change was made in the code so that when OpenShot starts, it checks the sample rate of the default audio device, in Windows, and matches it.
Now, if for some reason you need some specific audio sample rate, I would first change the operating system environment default audio sample rate, and then go into OpenShot and change it to match what you set it to. I am not positive if the code in the Linux world works the same as in the Windows world where OpenShot automatically matches the operating system default audio sample rate. When you make a change in OpenShot, you need to restart it.
Another option that might address the audio issue, in OpenShot, go to Edit | Preferences | Preview tab and change the "Playback Audio Device" from "Default" to what OpenShot lists as other options to interact with the audio.
I don't have a computer with Linux environment that I can test all this. I do have Linux (Ubuntu 25.04) running in an Oracle Virtualbox environment as guest (my host is Windows 11) but because it is a virtual environment, my audio hardware is generic and doesn't provide me with many options to choose from.
I would love to hear back from this group if you have a change to experiment with different settings and what works or doesn't work.
for me I'm not interested about my audio rate, for example when openshot is configured to use 48000, when I import a file at 44100, the file must works
