Issue with fonts in latest release (3.2.1)

Open Novembravo opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

Describe the bug: Apologies if this is done improperly, I've never submitted one of these before. Basically, when I duplicate a .SVG title file, the selected font defaults back to Ubuntu, whereas in previous versions it was a proper duplication of both the text and the font, not just the text.

Steps to reproduce the behavior: 1 - Create a .SVG title file using the 1 or 2 line "Gold" template 2 - Name the file in the relevant text field 3- Enter text in the line 1/line 2 text field 4 - Click on "Change Font" 5 - Select chosen font (I use Trebuchet) 6 - Click Save 7 - Right click on the .SVG file 8 - Click "Duplicate Title" 9 - New file has defaulted back to Ubuntu font

Expected behavior: Rather than defaulting to the Ubuntu font when duplicated, the duplicated .SVG file should have both the text entered in the line 1/line 2 text field and the chosen font.

System Details:

  • OpenShot Version : 3.2.1
  • Operating System / Distro: Windows 10

Hope I did this right! Best, -NB

Hello @Novembravo Yes, this clearly identifies the bug. Thank you!

I have noticed this as well, and with any of the animated ones the only fonts available are the four which come with the software (which may be by design).

Even if it is by design, it should be enhanced to allow a variety of fonts that are commonly available with the operating system. Additionally, any custom fonts added to the operating system environment, OpenShot should see those and make them available as well.

I'm having the exact same issue. I'm running the OpenShot-v3.2.1-x86_64.AppImage on Debian12.

While it keeps the background and font color, it falls back to default font.

I eventually managed to build and launch openshot using the instructions from here: https://www.openshot.org/en/user-guide/ (created 3 issues which I found along the way in the description on how to build)

The good thing: I can't reproduce the problem with using the latest version 5ed830088aceb1338ffe0a3f642f7bed29a23e17

Hello @rlopezmccoy

  1. What is your operating system/version(windows 10? Ubuntu 22.04 lts? etc?).
  2. If Linux, are you running the AppImage or PPA?

Thank you in advance!

Tested in Windows 11 Pro running OpenShot v3.3.0 and I am unable to reproduce this issue.

Tested in Ubuntu 24.04 lts running OpenShot v3.3.0 AppImage and I am unable to reproduce this issue.

However, there are still some issues with some Fonts that either make the text disappear and/or not apply to the text (I need to further test this because I am not familiar many of these fonts so I am not sure if they are available in Ubuntu or they need to be installed/added).

I consider myself a novice Linux user. If you are still having the issue with v3.3.0 with this specific reported issue, please be sure that you are able to replicate your issue and please provide me with step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce it, without leaving any details out. This way I can share this with the lead developer for his review and troubleshooting.

After trying to replicate the issue from scratch, it seems it was an issue with the .svg files I reuse between projects. Still don't understand what's going on there, but I believe there's no issue when creating new titles and duplicating those.

Thank you for the update @rlopezmccoy.

I am going to close this ticket as I don't want the thread to get too long. A new submission can be started with the latest version of OpenShot v3.3.0 if the issue comes up again.
