Allow user to drag-n-drop only audio component or only video component of a clip from the Project files panel into the Timeline.
This feature is provided in one of the video editors.
In the Project files panel, a couple of overlay icons are shown with each clip. One icon represents only audio component, and the other represents only video components.
The user has three options:
- Drag the clip itself and drop it in the Timeline (both audio and video are inserted in the timeline)
- Drag only the audio icon and drop it in the Timeline
- Drag only the video icon and drop it in the Timeline
This would save effort for the user: He does not have to first separate the audio-video components and then delete one of them.
Hello @raindropsfromsky. Is this a common feature in many editors? I use Shotcut and it doesn't have that feature and once in a while I use Davinci Resolve and I don't see that feature either.
Additionally, I think it will complicate the "Project Files" tab. OpenShot is meant for beginner video editors and it is not meant to compete with more advanced video editors (which some don't have this feature either).
There is an effort to redo the UI of OpenShot (no ETA at this time) and that might facilitate the display of both video and audio when you drag it to the timeline and then you can separate/unlink them and delete what you don't want/need.
This feature is there in Kdenlive.
IMHO, it does not clutter the interface, as it only shows up when we hover the mouse on any clip.
I missed the fact that this option only comes into play when the mouse "hovers" over the file. So you are correct, it would not clutter the interface like I was envisioning.
Thank you for that insight.
