Long WebM files don't rap well with OpenShot atm

Open MesaBlack opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

Describe the bug: WebM videos over 30 minutes, when uploaded, only have around the first 20 minutes before ending abruptly.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Record your ChromeOS screen for around 30-50 minutes
  2. End recording to get a WEbM file
  3. Upload WebM File to Openshot
  4. only the first 20-30 minutes are shown, not all.

Expected behavior: All of the WebM file is meant to appear.

System Details:

  • OpenShot Version 3.1.1: {{ log_context.openshot_qt_version 3.1.1}}
  • Operating System / Distro: Linux on ChromeOS Linux dev environment

There are some known challenges with webm files being imported inot Openshot. The best thing to do is to convert your webm file to a .mp4 using a converter like VLC, Handbrake, or ShutterEncoder. All of those tools can perform bulk conversions as well.

plus the recycle bin of "WebM to mp4" websites doesn't rap with such a large file so well, and some have those stupid-ass limits on the size, like an equally stupid maximum of 100 mb.

ChromeOS only lets you record your screen with the results being always WebM.
