Audio preview won't output any output device except for ASIO

Open spiceminecraft opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

Describe the bug: When attempting to play back an audio preview while editing a video in OpenShot, there is no sound, except when using the "ASIO: Realtek ASIO" output device, which I don't want to use. I have tried using every possible audio output device, and only ASIO works.

Steps to reproduce the behavior: Sorry, I don't know how to reproduce this. This is how OpenShot was behaving when I first installed it on this device.

Expected behavior: I expected to be able to use any of my output devices that work with different programs, such as "Windows Audio: Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio)".

System Details:

  • OpenShot Version: 3.1.1
  • Operating System / Distro: Windows 11

Hello @spiceminecraft. Give this a try:

  1. Close OpenShot if running.
  2. Make sure that your Windows 11 Default Audio Device (Output) is set to your desired device.
  3. Make a backup of c:\users\username.opensot_qt folder.
  4. Delete c:\users\username.openshot_qt folder.
  5. Start OpenShot.
  6. Open your project and verify the audio works.
  7. If the audio still not working then continue....
  8. In OpenShot, go to Edit | Preferences | Preview tab.
  9. The "Playback Audio Device" is most likely set to "Default".
  10. From the drop down select "Windows Audio: Speakers (Realtke(R) Audio".
  11. Restart OpenShot and give your project a try again.

OpenShot does not handle changing of Audio devices in the operating system environment gracefully.

I ended up eventually switching to using another video editing program, as I tried all these steps to no avail.
