Titles have no text - 3.1.1

Open MOSN97 opened this issue 2 years ago • 10 comments

Just downloaded and installed the newest version 3.1.1 from the Openshot website and straight out of the box the titles have no text whatsoever. Not in preview, not when I add them. Nothing. Changing fonts or color does nothing. Give me a solution.

Hello @MOSN97.

  1. Were you running a previous version? If so, please perform a clean installation of v3.1.1. By the way, I recommend that you download the latest DEV Daily Build from openshot.org/download/#daily.
  2. What operating system/version are your running (Windows 11 pro? Ubuntu 22.04 lts? etc?)
  3. Which Text template are you using? Or, is this happening with all of the Text templates.

I was running a previous version but uninstalled it previously. I didn't manually delete anything else so I suppose the qt folder might still have been there. I'm running Windows 10 Pro and yes it was with every template.

So, did you do a clean installation as I suggested?

Tried it now, didn't help.

Hello @MOSN97. Please do this:

  1. Start OpenShot
  2. Click on Title | Title
  3. Select Bar 3 template.
  4. Take a screen shot and share that here.
  5. Now click on "Text Color"
  6. Take another screen shot and share.

Thank you @MOSN97 for the screen shots. This is very strange as everything looks normal. I am going to reach out to the lead developer to take a look at your issue. Please provide the following information:

  1. A screen shot of Help | About Openshot.
  2. Your hardware specs (CPU, RAM, GPU/RAM, Storage type and available free space).
  3. Is this a laptop or desktop and what brand?

Meanwhile:

  1. Please ensure you have the latest Microsoft Windows Updates.
  2. Please update your Graphics card driver if one is available.
  3. Update your firmware if an update is available.
  4. Restart Windows regardless of updates.
  5. Before you start OpenShot, delete c:\users\username.openshot_qt folder (might be worth backing it up one more time before you delete).
  6. Start OpenShot and try the Title template again and provide the result.

This information will help the lead developer to better troubleshoot this issue.

Thank you in advance!

Same problem here on linux! I use Debian GNU/Linux bookworm with OpenShot 3.1.1 AppImage. I also tried to go back to a previous version. Do not work. (Only the .deb package work, which is version 2.6.1, but the AppImage of 2.6.1 do not work for me)

EDIT: My bad - sorry - the default fonts are "Ubuntu" fonts, which I have not installed. If I change the font, the text appears.

Hello @Palace4Software. Thank you for the report and the update. Out of curiosity, do both v2.6.1 and v3.1.1 behave the same way? Meaning, if you change the font to something other than Ubuntu.

Yes, they behave in exactly the same way. In fact, the package maintainer of openshot-qt (in Debian) must have changed the default font so that the error does not occur.

The appimages are supposed to use the Ubuntu font. However, as these are non-free, I will not install them and simply live with the "error".
