Request: compiled releases

I didnt want to request this, but for the life of me i cannot get cake to work on linux(Archlinux-x86_64), i dont have a windows system in my development environment.

So would the team, Please release periodic tarballs with the necessary compiled components.

Sorry, there won't be any releases at least until the TS mod for OpenRA is released. #386 should make installing the mod a lot easier however.

@abcdefg30 - How close or far away is the TS mod release?

@DylanC : fyi, there are currently 90 open issues for the TS mod. So yes, I think GraionDilach is correct.

@abcdefg30 - I have been following some commits on here and it looks really difficult tbh. I think it would take a considerable time before I would have enough knowledge to help out.

The migration to the ModSDK should make running the mod yourself a lot easier. However, the unofficial "no release before the TS mod is released" agreement still applies. (Besides, I don't think a release would do the mod much good in its current state. Being forced to compile yourself isn't nice indeed, gives the mod the alpha appearance it needs though.) As for the TS release: No idea when that will happen... ☹️

TS haven't released yet, RA2 will not release unless TS has finished and released. So, the roadmap is : TS->RA2->YR I made a YR mod for OpenRA. If you interested, you can check it from my repository.(Although it is not perfect and didn't finish yet.)

@cookgreen - As stability of RA2 is tricky at best. is stability on your project better?

I'd guess the constantly failing Travis tests would have given you a hint. @cookgreen so far hasn't really proven he holds the knowledge of doing things properly.

Regarding the TS-RA2 relation, it's more of mirroring their old development - the RA2 engine is a revamped TS engine with terrain deformation disabled and a bunch of hacks to recode features into others (TS bouncy to RA2 shrapnel, ion storms to lightning storm, powerdown incorporated into Chrono Legionairre temporal, list goes on). There was also an implicit requirement, because up until last year, all mods had their own dll logics, and RA2 did use TS's which was missing from compiled releases, but the C&C mod dlls were folded into one shared dll, which means the TS logics now ship with a release + the modSDK made the necessity of tying RA2 into already installed releases void.

The performance of RA2 is pretty much equivalent to TS's though which is bad already. and indeed the project is quite far from completion at this point anyway.
