TIFF file not recognized on *some* android devices

I recently encountered a similar problem (EDIT: referencing #748). The strange thing is it works on my tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2). And it does not work on my phone (Samsung Galaxy NOTE 8).

Regarding my phone (Samsung Galaxy NOTE 8): I followed the advice of @dg0yt (thanks!) and deleted non-printable characters in the map notes. That worked and I was able to open the .omap file on the phone. However jpeg, tiff templates could not be opened, see screenshot: Image

Any ideas? I can readily send the map set up for inspection.

I would be willing to inspect the file.

This needs separate discussion, if from a recent map / Mapper.

However jpeg, tiff templates could not be opened

The tiff libary used in (most of) our binaries is a little bit dated. ~Maybe these TIFF files use features which aren't supported by that version.~ The problem depends on device. Might be a bug in the tiff lib or a bug or features in the device.

Continued:

  • I found out I can not open the jpeg, tiff files even in Photos viewer on phone...
  • I emailed myself one template jpeg and downloaded it onto my phone and voilá that one I can see.
  • and I can work with this template on Mapper on phone.
  • I did this with the tiffs as well and these can not be opened...
  • I Converted these tiffs into jpegs - this works!

For the jpegs the culprit is propably Dropbox that corrupted the files somehow. I was firstly downloading the templates, omap files from there. (I did it this way because for some unknown reason I could not see the phone when connected to computer.)

For the tiffs? Perhaps the dated tiff libary, as @dg0yt writes.

@ollesmaps: thank you for detailing the issue. I forwarded @dg0yt the email with your map which has that issue.
