Nightmode on hi3516ev100

Hello everyone,

I'm new to openipc and I hope this is the right place for my issue....

I'm using a board based on the hi3516ev100 chipset, and the sc2235p sensor. (Board is manufactured by Xiongmai) Overall, the camera works like a charm, but I have trouble setting up (automatic) night mode. I'm using the following majestic config:

system: webPort: 80 httpsPort: 443 logLevel: debug isp: antiFlicker: disabled image: mirror: false flip: false rotate: 0 contrast: 50 hue: 50 saturation: 50 luminance: 50 video0: enabled: true codec: h264 fps: 10 bitrate: 4096 rcMode: vbr gopSize: 1 gopMode: normal profile: main size: 1920x1080 sliceUnits: 0 video1: enabled: false codec: h264 size: 704x576 fps: 15 jpeg: enabled: true qfactor: 50 fps: 5 rtsp: false osd: enabled: false font: /usr/share/fonts/truetype/UbuntuMono-Regular.ttf template: '%d.%m.%Y %H:%M:%S' posX: 16 posY: 16 size: 1.0 audio: enabled: true volume: 60 srate: 8000 codec: opus outputEnabled: false outputVolume: 30 speakerPinInvert: false rtsp: enabled: true port: 554 nightMode: colorToGray: false irCutSingleInvert: true lightMonitor: true lightSensorInvert: true irCutPin2: 54 monitorDelay: 0 irCutPin1: 53 lightSensorPin: 64 motionDetect: enabled: false visualize: false debug: false records: enabled: false path: /mnt/mmcblk0p1/%F split: 20 maxUsage: 95 outgoing: enabled: false watchdog: enabled: false timeout: 300 hls: enabled: false

Every evening the camera switches to night mode when the sun starts to set, no problem there. But sometime later, when it's almost dark, the camera loses image and I see this:

Image

Sometimes I see the correct image for a second before it disappears again. When I move my hand in front of the camera (5 cm), I can see some dark spots moving in the image above. So, the camera does see something....

A couple of nights ago, I went outside to try and repair the camera. It is worth noting that I was wearing a white coat, and my camera is directly above an outside light. (The light is covered on top and thus does not blind the camera; I checked) I had been on the ladder for a couple of minutes when I noticed the camera was giving a correct image. (The contours of my coat that was reflecting the bright light of the lamp. The rest of the image was black but that was to be expected.) I then got off the ladder, out of sight of the camera. The camera adjusted to the new lighting (the background, which had been black, became visible again), but after a couple of seconds in crashed and gave the image above again.

During the night, the image goes less and less bright, "stripes" start to disappear and at the end of the night the image is completely gone (gone black). When the sun comes up, nothing happens. (Image still black) I need to restart majestic to get the image back. (After restarting, the ir filter is often still in front of the lens. I have to change some "night mode" settings back and forth to get the normal colored image. The motor for the ir filter is fine; if I turn off the light monitor and use the “night” button in preview, the filter moves away as expected.)

I'm stuck, so any help is much appreciated! As I said, I’m new around here, so there might just be something wrong with my config. I'm happy to provide any logs that might help, I just haven’t found them yet....

Greetings, Palamedes

I got the same problem with the same board. Have you figured this out? I can trigger this by placing my hand close to the sensor so its related to night mode.

Unfortunately not. I needed the camera operational so i decided to restore stock firmware. That worked fine. Later I replaced the board with a GK7205V300 board (aliexpress) that I had flashed with OpenIPC. That works great. I have had bad experiences with supported but not recommended boards. If you are buying a new board, I strongly recommend choosing one with a soc from the recommended list https://openipc.org/supported-hardware/featured
