Energy Carrier Scenarios as a new ontology term
Description of the issue
We investigated several scenario studies and came to the conclusion that there are multiple terms that could be added for the scenario description in the OEO. A lot of scenarios have a specific focus on a technology or energy carrier (e.g hydrogen, green molecules or electrification)
Ideas of solution
Add an "Energy Carrier Scenario" Term under the "Explorative Scenario" subcategory.
- Furthermore add
- "Electrification Scenario"
- "Hydrogen Scenario"
- "Green Molecules" under this
Proposals for definitions "An energy carrier scenario is an explorative scenario that investigates future system states with the focus on a specific energy carrier in the demand sectors"
"An electrification scenario is an energy carrier scenario with the focus on electrification in the different demand sectors"
"A hydrogen scenario is an energy carrier scenario with the focus on the usage hydrogen in the different demand sectors"
"A green molecule scenario is an energy carrier scenario with the focus on the usage of green molecules in the different demand sectors"
Workflow checklist
- [X] I discussed the issue with someone else than me before working on a solution
- [X] I already read the latest version of the workflow for this repository
- [X] The goal of this ontology is clear to me
I am aware that
- [X] every entry in the ontology should have a definition
- [X] classes should arise from concepts rather than from words
From todays oeo-dev meeting no. 105 we have some comments / questions @f-innatech
- We'd like to propose
technology scenarioinstead ofenergy carrier scenario. E,g. for "wind energy", we recommend to use the classwind power technologyfrom the OEO, since it combines wind turbines/parks with the wind energy transformation process. Same for other technologies. - The definition refers to the demand sector. We don't see why to restrict this and propose to leave the sector out of the definition. Instead, would it make sense to define something like "sector focused scenario"?
- A technology/energy carrier focused scenario could also be a target-driven scenario, e.g. 100% wind energy. Therefore we'd propose to make it a subhierarchy of scenario on its own. The differnet types of scenarios usually are not mutually exclusive.
- We don't have "green molecules" in the OEO. Do you mean something like "power-to-X technology" with that term?
@stap-m
- I agree that technology scenario is a better term
- sector focused scenario would then be a subclass of technology scenario? I think this also makes sense. However, in the scenarios i looked at the divide was mostly done on the demand side which is why i proposed the division on this side, but it still makes sense to change it like you proposed.
- Yes, i totally agree there is some overlap there
- Yes, green molecules is referring to molecules produced by power-to-x- technologies
In conclusion, I think the proposed changes can be fully integrated.
To summarize I think we want to implement the following changes:
Technology Scenario
An technology scenario is an scenario that investigates future system states with the focus on a specific energy carrier.
(new name, subhierarchy of scenario, no mention of the demand sector)
Sector Focused Scenario
A sector focused scenario is a technology scenario that focuses on a specific sector.
(new subclass, I am unsure if this has to be the demand sector specifically?)
I'd like to improve this definition if possible.
Power-to-x- technologies scenario
A power-to-x- technologies scenario is an energy carrier scenario with the focus on the usage of power-to-x- technologies in the different demand sectors.
(new name)
Maybe we should at least mention green molecules?
These were uncontested, therefor I assume they can be implemented as is:
Electrification scenario
An electrification scenario is an energy carrier scenario with the focus on electrification in the different demand sectors.
Hydrogen Scenario
A hydrogen scenario is an energy carrier scenario with the focus on the usage hydrogen in the different demand sectors.
@stap-m Have you had time to think about this? I'd still have time to implement it.
From todays oeo-dev-meeting:
-
Technology scenario:
- An technology scenario is a scenario that investigates future system states with the focus on a specific technology.
- equivalent to scenario and is about some technology
- ready to implement
-
Sector Focused Scenario
- A sector focused scenario is a scenario that focuses on a specific sector.
- direct subclass of scenario
- equivalent to scenario and is about some sector
- ready to implement
-
Power-to-x- technologies scenario
- A power-to-x-technologies scenario is a technology scenario with the focus on the usage of power-to-x- technologies in the different demand sectors.
- formerly, this referred to "green molecules" which was replaced by power-to-fuel. BUT: power-to-fuel is not necessarly "green"! @f-innatech
- is about some power-to-fuel technology
-
Electrification scenario
- Axioms:
- related to sector-coupling technology?
- related to electrical energy share?
- Clarification of the term electrification necessary
- Kommentar: Unterschied Elektrifizierung (Neu-Elektrifizierung / Technologie-Wechsel) - Ziel mitdenken
- Axioms:
-
Hydrogen Scenario
- is about some demand sector and is about some technology (which one?)
- hydrogenification vs electrification
- Hydrogenification ist keine klassische Technologie, sondern ein bisschen was anderes. Systemische Kategorie/ Technologiestruktur -- eigenes Issue erstellen @stap-m
