Add terminology from software ontology SWO

Open stap-m opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

Description of the issue

SWO contains some terms that might be interesting for oeo-model, especially subclasses of information content entity and some processes. grafik grafik

Ideas of solution

Workflow checklist

  • [ ] I discussed the issue with someone else than me before working on a solution
  • [ ] I already read the latest version of the workflow for this repository
  • [ ] The goal of this ontology is clear to me

I am aware that

  • [ ] every entry in the ontology should have a definition
  • [ ] classes should arise from concepts rather than from words

SWO uses BFO and is licensed under CC-BY-4.0 (note from the developer meeting)

Which basically means that if we import from SWO we have to add to every imported class an annotation property. But I think that this is doable.

However, we have to check overlaps of already existing OEO classes.

I had a bit a look into this ontology. I would suggest that we import only selected classes, as a) some are parallel to already in the OEO existing classes and b) some are completely irrelevant for our domain, e.g. gene expression analysis.

As SWO builds upon IAO we should also check first, whether there are more useful concepts in IAO.
