Discussion how data filters using tags should work?
Would it be good if the user always gets all tables displayed that contain the selected tag(s). So no "and" but an "or" filter for tags. This would allow searching for multiple tags at once, but also return many more results. The tags search could then be explicit again via the combination with the text search. (Just an idea, in general it makes sense that the user gets the result that is expected e.g. filter tag a, b and only get tables that contain a combination of tag a and b).
I think it would be great if the user could choose whether to combine the tags as "and" or "or". I had one search the other day where I needed "or" but wasn't able to get it. On another day I may prefer to have tags combined with "and".
i am leaning towards keeping it AND only:
- there is also the combination of tags + free text search to consider (which is AND)
- the more tables there are, the potentially less useful OR becomes
- even more complexity
I think I recall a situation where I tried free text and tags to filter for something and it did not work the way I expected it to. Using only the tags did also not work as I needed free text. Maybe the AND for tags is fine, but the free text may need to be adjusted or explained?
Here is my example (free text for 2021 or 2019 combined with tag: emission-projection, not visible, as on the bottom of page).
There are emission projection tables that include 2021 in their title, but these are not shown in the search results when looking for both 2019 and 2021. Maybe I input this wrong in the free text search, but also trying various combinations of inputting 2019 and 2021, I did not manage to also make the 2021 table show up in the results, which definitely exist:
