(Animation tool) Various issues including not displaying animation or adjusting frame rate

Open Hovden opened this issue 8 years ago • 5 comments

We have a variety of bugs in the animation tool. Some of which may be new to 1.0.1 Cannot set the framerate when saving a video and the advanced settings are hidden and hard to find.

Sometimes the animation works, sometimes not.

ParaView changed their dialog recently (although I thought that change would have been in 1.0 too). The frame rate should be controlled by how many frames you have requested/how long you told the animation to be.

What do you mean sometimes it doesn't work? What is wrong?

Not sure, several users got it in a state where the play button causes no changes except at the last frame. Several experience tomviz users could not figure out how to get it back. When we save the state, close, and restore, then it works properly. If we can get you more details I'll send update.

I have seen some strange behavior in ParaView's animations recently. But I don't think we expose the setting that can work around it in tomviz. Otherwise I'd ask you to try that. And I don't have time to patch tomviz to expose it :(

Developer notes: Try setting ParaView's Animation Time Precision setting to 20 rather than the default of 6 and see if that prevents this.

I found this thread and wanted to add that I am using v1.4 and I have experienced a similar problem with the animation tool in regards to 'working sometimes, while not working other times'. Usually, if I start by loading a new set of data, the animation tool works fine throughout the entire session. However, once I save the state, close the file, and reopen at a later time - the animation tool does not work properly. After playing, it will just jump to the last image in the sequence. I tried reopening the same state file on a different device but I still could not get the animation tool to work for those previously saved state files.

Im bumping this issue to the top again for tomviz 1.5.1 as another user I was working with ran into this issue.

Loading a state file (with/without a camera path in the state file) makes it such that the "play" button will no longer allow the animation to dynamically change the scene. If you pause the animation then it redraws the scene. If you export the movie then the movie works properly.
