auto-compaction vs manual compaction

Description

We have this database on Pika which gets updated every 10mn. We noticed that it grows out of proportion: up to 10GB while there are only 916442 keys.

I have 2 questions :

• Is this growth "normal". Any ways to prevent it?
• I setup automatic compaction every hour. I can see that we go from 10GB to 5GB. But if I run a manual compaction using the compact command this number goes down to 350MB!. Is there a difference on how auto and manual compaction work?
