Enhancement - Taking Longer Than Usual

I always thought this notification was a bit weird:

My thoughts on the subject:

1. The "retry" button seems to indicate that it has stopped, and if I don't hit retry, then it won't complete the operation.
2. Similar to above, what happens if I leave it? or hit dismiss?
3. What operation is taking awhile?
4. Maybe some progress indicator would help?
